We grabbed at the chance to do a long survey this week .On Monday the 16th Karl and the Ben Bola had to travel to the gates of Loch Ness to tow home to Buckie a 60Ft barge called Phillys. a real tub i should add.
We set sail at 3-30am myself ,Karl and 2 reserachers from Spey Bay wildlife centre. all was calm and we were treated to a fine sun rise, at Lossiemouth we encountered Harbour Porpoise and further along into the firth we saw lots of birds ,but sadly none of the reported animals ,dolphins ,Orcas and Minkes. we saw our first dolphins close to the Kessock bridge ,then after picking up the barge we encountered 3 more sightings at Chanonry, and further out at Cromarty.
By this time the tide and the wind had changed so it was a bit of a long slog bag to Buckie ,we were treated to some wonderful clouds and rays of light as we drew closer to home ,even some tall ships were close by and in full sail we were home for eight tired but glad to have made the trip.
Thanks to Karl and Ben Bola
